KJ BockIs lowresI’m a graduate of the University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program where I was an Iowa Arts Fellow.  These days I’m a freelance writer based in Western Massachusetts.  I have a background in alternative health and nutrition, so a lot of my writing focuses on food and wellness.

My essays and features have appeared in The New York Times, Newsday, Ms. Magazine, Washingtonian, The Writer’s Chronicle, Bust, Narrative, Terrain, Brevity, Meridian, Amherst Magazine and The Journal.

My work has also been anthologized in Lonely Planet’s Rite of Passage and Fearless Confessions: A Writer’s Guide to Memoir, and I’ve won fellowships and awards from the Kunstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Lantern Books, and The Atlantic Monthly.

I’ve had essays published in multiple volumes of The Best Women’s Travel Writing and  The Best Travel Writingand twice won the Solas Award for Best Travel Writing from Traveler’s Tales.
