I’m a graduate of the University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program where I was an Iowa Arts Fellow. These days I’m a freelance writer and professor of literature and writing based in Western Massachusetts. I have a background in alternative health and nutrition, so a lot of my writing focuses on food and wellness.
My essays and features have appeared in The New York Times, Newsday, Ms. Magazine, Washingtonian, The Writer’s Chronicle, Bust, Narrative, Terrain, Brevity, Meridian, Amherst Magazine and The Journal. My work has also been anthologized in Lonely Planet’s Rite of Passage and Fearless Confessions: A Writer’s Guide to Memoir, and I’ve won fellowships and awards from the Kunstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Lantern Books, and The Atlantic Monthly.
Recently, I’ve had a essays published in The Best Women’s Travel Writing 2011 and The Best Travel Writing 2011.
